# Applying Power

The following sections detail the installation of the field replaceable power supply units (PSU) and the connection to the AC Line to power the Onyx FHM.

{% hint style="danger" %}
**WARNING:** The AC Line of the Onyx FHM can present dangerous voltage. Contact with the line voltage can result in pain or injury.

1\. Verify that the chassis ground of the Onyx FHM is connected to an earth ground before connecting AC Power Cable to the Onyx FHM unit.

2\. Verify that the AC Line has a quality signal ground integrated with a circuit breaker prior to applying AC Line Power to the Onyx FHM.

3\. Ensure that line voltage is not present when plugging the AC Power Cable to the PSUs of the unit. Only plug units into AC Line voltage after they are connected to the Onyx FHM.
{% endhint %}

The PSUs are pre-installed in the Onyx FHM. The PSU is a hot swappable field replaceable unit (FRU) and can be replaced while the equipment is operating if the remaining (second) PSU is installed and in operation.

The following instructions detail how to install a new PSU field FRU in the Onyx FHM.

## PSU Replacement

{% hint style="danger" %}
**WARNING:** Shock hazard! For safety, disconnect power input cable from the power supply unit before servicing the equipment.
{% endhint %}

### PSU FRU Removal

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Locate the release tab on the PSU FRU and press and hold the blue release tab to the right to unlock the PSU from the power bay.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
While holding down the release tab, grip the PSU's handle and firmly pull it out of the power bay.

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### PSU FRU Installation

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Align the new PSU with the empty power bay, ensuring the PSU’s power connector is in the correct orientation (see Figure 24).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Carefully slide the new PSU into the power bay and gently push until the front surface of the PSU is flush with the front surface of the case.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
An audible click will be heard when the PSU is installed correctly. The PSU will not go in all the way if it is inserted in the wrong orientation.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**CAUTION:** If the insertion of the PSU results in either significant resistance or a hard stop, remove the PSU and inspect it for correct orientation and/or damage. If damage is found or insertion issues persist, contact your supplier for replacement of the PSU. Do not attempt to repair a damaged PSU.
{% endhint %}

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Connection of AC Power

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Ensure there is enough power available on the selected electrical circuit to supply the Onyx FHM. The maximum system power consumption is 188.22 watts with an input voltage of 100-240V AC. It is recommended to ensure that enough power is available from the power distribution system prior to installation.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
The Onyx-FRU is designed to support 1 + 1 power redundancy. Ensure that both PSU FRUs have been properly installed before powering up the equipment.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Insert the AC PSU Cable Receptacle of 1 pc. of the included power cords into the AC PSU ensuring that it is fully inserted.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Insert the standard AC Plug into the desired AC outlet. If necessary, switch on power strip that PSU(s) are plugged into.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Verify that the power supply is operating. The LED on the PSU will illuminate Green designating normal operation.

## Verifying System Operation

### Front Panel LED

Verify successful boot up of Onyx FHM by checking the system LED Tree located on the front panel. When operating normally, the PWR, FAN, and SYS LEDs should all display green.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.gxc.io/hw/5g/5g-fronthaul-multiplexer/fhm-hardware-installation-guide/applying-power.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
