Analytics

The Analytics feature generates Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports that provide insight into the performance and status of your networks. You can generate analytics reports for specific functions and time durations to troubleshoot and optimize your networks.

Analytics Reports

The Analytics feature provides three report types, each providing a different view of network performance data:

Performance Summary Report

The Performance Summary Report presents KPIs as single numerical values, each representing an aggregate over the selected duration and equipment scope. For instructions on generating this report, see Generate Analytics Reports.

The Performance Summary Report includes the following KPIs.

Metric
4G / 5G
Description

Average Uplink Throughput

4G, 5G

Average data transmission rate in the uplink direction (UE to AP) across the selected duration.

Peak Uplink Throughput

4G, 5G

Peak data transmission rate in the uplink direction (UE to AP) during the selected duration.

Uplink Traffic Volume

4G, 5G

Total data transmitted in the uplink direction (UE to AP) over the selected duration. Excludes MeshBackhaul traffic.

Average Downlink Throughput

4G, 5G

Average data transmission rate in the downlink direction (AP to UE) across the selected duration.

Peak Downlink Throughput

4G, 5G

Peak data transmission rate in the downlink direction (AP to UE) during the selected duration.

Downlink Traffic Volume

4G, 5G

Total data transmitted in the downlink direction (AP to UE) over the selected duration. Excludes MeshBackhaul traffic.

GPS Signal Availability

4G

Average percentage of time the selected AP was GPS-connected during the selected duration.

Loss of GPS timing signal can cause drift, increased interference, and reduced cell capacity.

PRB Utilization Uplink

4G, 5G

Average Physical Resource Block (PRB) utilization percentage on uplink shared channels, aggregated over five-minute intervals.

Includes Mesh UE traffic. All other KPIs exclude Mesh UE traffic.

See PRB Utilization Analytics.

PRB Utilization Downlink

4G, 5G

Average PRB utilization percentage on downlink shared channels, aggregated over five-minute intervals.

Includes Mesh UE traffic. All other KPIs exclude Mesh UE traffic.

See PRB Utilization Analytics.

Access Point Uptime

4G, 5G

Average percentage of time the AP was in service during the selected duration.

For CA-enabled APs, only the primary cell is accounted for — 100% does not confirm secondary cells were functioning.

For DC-enabled APs, both Cell 1 and Cell 2 are accounted for.

Downlink Cell BLER

5G

Average downlink Block Error Rate (BLER) as a percentage, measuring error rate after decoding.

Elevated BLER indicates retransmissions are consuming capacity, reducing effective downlink throughput.

Uplink Cell BLER

5G

Average uplink BLER as a percentage, measuring error rate after decoding.

High uplink BLER indicates poor UE transmit conditions — distance, obstruction, or interference.

Cell SRS SNR

5G

Average Signal-to-Noise Ratio of Sounding Reference Signals (SRS), used for uplink channel quality estimation and scheduling decisions.

Low SNR correlates with higher BLER and lower modulation order selection. Measured in decibels (dB).

RRC Success Percentage

5G

Average number of RRC connection establishments for the cell, expressed as a ratio of successful to attempted setups.

Failures at this layer prevent devices reaching the core network.

RACH Attempts

5G

Number of Random Access Channel attempts during the selected duration.

High RACH load with a simultaneous fall in RRC Success Percentage indicates access congestion.

UE Connection Requests

4G, 5G

4G: Number of UE attach requests (NAS layer Connection Requests) for the selected equipment and duration.

5G: Number of UE registration requests (NAS layer Connection Requests) for the selected equipment and duration.

UE Connection Success

4G, 5G

4G: Percentage or count of successful UE attach accepts (NAS layer Connection Responses sent to UE).

5G: Percentage or count of successful UE registration accepts (NAS layer Connection Responses sent to UE).

Toggle between % and # display modes using the icon control.

Number of Dropped Calls

4G

Number of implicit UE detaches — sessions terminated because the UE went out of coverage and did not refresh its registration periodically.

Distinct from attach failures; the device was previously connected. Also, see Performance Analytics Report > Dropped Call Rate.

Average Number of Active UE

4G, 5G

Average number of active (connected) UE for the selected equipment and duration.

Measured at the Onyx Edge level. Not available when a specific AP is selected.

Average Number of Registered UE

4G, 5G

Average number of registered UE (idle and connected) for the selected equipment and duration. Always >= active UE.

Measured at the Onyx Edge level. Not available when a specific AP is selected.

Paging Success

4G, 5G

Percentage or count of successful paging attempts. Used by the network to wake idle registered UE.

Toggle between % and # display modes using the icon control.

NGAP Dropped Connections

5G

Percentage or count of N2 interface connections dropped due to errors between the RAN and 5G core. Excludes drops caused by user inactivity or core-initiated releases.

Indicates instability in the control-plane path between the access network and the AMF. Toggle between % and # display modes using the icon control.

SAS Availability

4G, 5G

Average percentage of time SAS was available for the selected equipment and duration.

Applies only to CBRS-band deployments.

If SAS becomes unavailable, the network loses its spectrum grant and must suspend transmissions — causing a complete service outage regardless of radio or core health.

Performance Analytics Report

The Performance Analytics Report presents KPIs as time-series line charts over the selected duration, enabling identification of trends, anomalies, and patterns not visible in point-in-time summary values. Not all charts are displayed by default — use the Manage Reports feature to add or remove charts from the report. For instructions on generating this report, see Generate Analytics Reports. For known sampling behavior affecting these charts, see Analytics Limitations.

The Performance Analytics Report includes the following KPIs.

Use this chart to assess both connection volume and success rate simultaneously. A significant gap between the Attempted and Successful series indicates RRC establishment failures, which may point to radio coverage issues, interference, or capacity constraints.

RACH Attempts

5G

Number of Random Access Channel access attempts at each time point.

A spike coinciding with falling RRC Success Percentage confirms RACH congestion.

Analytics Limitations

This section describes the limitations of the Analytics feature in this release.

Last Data Point on Plots Sometimes Drops to Zero

The last data point on Performance Analytics plots may sometimes drop to zero for one of the following reasons:

  • The last data point may factually be zero.

  • The data point for the last minute may be delayed. Very likely since the graph's right edge is close to the current time, and there may be a delay in collecting the metric from the corresponding equipment.

  • The last data point may be missing due to the equipment going offline.

It is recommended to ignore the last data point on the plots.

PRB Utilization Analytics

This limitation applies to the PRB Utilization Uplink and PRB Utilization Downlink KPIs in both the Performance Summary Report and Performance Analytics Report.

The Onyx Edge collects five-minute averaged statistics from the APs every five minutes. Since the data is backfilled for the last five minutes, any queries including the sampling time will give different values before and after that time. After the five-minute sampling time, refresh the report to view the correct data.

For example:

An AP provides data at 10:00:29 with the value x.

This covers five minutes average, from 09:55:29 to 10:00:29.

The Onyx Edge generates the following five samples: 09:56:00 x, 09:57:00 x, 09:58:00 x, 09:59:00 x, 10:00:00 x.

Say, the Onyx Edge pushed these at 10:00:50 into the Orchestrator/Prometheus.

Any query done including this 09:55:00 to 10:00:00 interval until 10:00:50 is void (as these five data points do not exist), and any query done post 10:00:50 will give the correct value (as these data points now exist). Post 10:00:50, these values will never change for that duration.
